11 underappreciated [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen entries, and why you should

I've not been well the last few days, so with little energy to do much beyond sitting in bed, I've been perusing the [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen reviews and getting on with mine.

We've had more reviewers than I'd realised - 79 in total, not including anonymice, and there's an average of 10 reviews per entry. The actual totals vary widely from 2 to 20+. While the fics with the most reviews are well deserving of their popularity, some of the overlooked ones really surprised me.

There are the 11 least-reviewed contributions in order of posting - take a look and see what you think!

Dear Mr Diggory
Cedric's 7th year, had he lived - during which he becomes Head Boy and has to deal with Umbridge, maintain his relationship with Cho, support the DA and find a job. It's done as a series of letters to, from and relating to Cedric. The joshing between Cedric and his friends is very funny, and Pomona Sprout takes Dumbledore to task.

Journaling to Those Lost: A Parallel Epistolary
Another story told through letters - this time Neville writing to his parents and Minerva writing to Albus: necessarily a one-way correspondence, but one that helps Neville and Minerva move on and help others to move on (or not) as they rebuild Hogwarts. It's amusing and moving in parts, with some interesting details of the reconstruction.

Draco's Excellent Manners
Ginny, Flitwick, Sirius, Pansy and Draco feature in this sketch. The facial expressions are superb.

Carrying On
This is about George grieving his twin's death, but it's also about how hard it is for his friends and family to watch him go through it - something I've not seen dealt with before. Having seen my parents struggle with my periodic bouts of depression, this struck a chord with me.

Picture of a Friendship
Beautifully written piece exploring the friendship between Regulus and Rabastan, their different personalities, how they approach the War and what Regulus' loss does to his friend.

The Knock-On Effect
A warm look at Ron and his friends as they choose their post-war paths. There are some humorous moments but it's the portrayal of the minutiae of friendship that stood out for me.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?
This time it's Charlie who has to decide his priorities after the war, with some help from Ginny. There are some lovely observations here about his place in the Weasley family.

Switzerland
Can a rich, privileged pure-blood Slytherin be friends with a rich, privileged Muggleborn Hufflepuff? This fic follows the relationship between Blaise Zabini and Justin Finch-Fletchley over their time at Hogwarts. Not only is Blaise's perspective a fascinating lens through which to view the events of the seven years and beyond, but the author makes some fun digs at fandom perceptions of Blaise over the years, and at how a privileged Muggle family might view the wizarding world. Ultimately though this is a satisfying, thought-provoking read.

Prelude to a Hearing
Draco and his friends prepare to petition a hostile Court for their rights post-war, while Auror Ron has to decide how to respond to Ministry pressure. There are a couple of fun character moments here along with a brief look at Ministry politics.

My Own Secret Ceremonials
Luna and George (being neighbours and old friends) organise a party before Bill and Fleur's wedding. This has a real 'calm before the storm' feeling as the characters take their last chance to relax before what faces them in seventh year, and as with any self-respecting teen party they get up to a few things their parents wouldn't approve of!

In My Mind, This Isn’t It
Harry has to learn to live with knowing his daughter is a Squib. Not something I've seen tried before, and Harry's reactions rang true for me.
