I hope ... you enjoy reading about [Voldemort] in book seven, where he finally gets the legroom for which he has been aching during all those years in exile.

I have always felt that cardboard baddies make weak heroes and that Harry deserved a really deluxe model, so I have done my best to make Lord Voldemort a real person, red eyed and snakelike though he might be. He, of course, is one of the reasons the Harry Potter books are often banned, but I remain of the firm belief that we need our imaginary villains, the better to brace ourselves for the ones we need to fight in reality.

My, my. I never dared to hope that Voldemort might grow an extra dimension.

Or maybe she's just referring to the Tom background.

Quotes meme, pinched from [livejournal.com profile] kennahijja:

Go here and look through random quotations until you find 5 that you think reflect who you are or what you believe.

The thing I hate about an argument is that it always interrupts a discussion. ~ G. K. Chesterton

Maybe the most any of us can expect of ourselves isn't perfection but progress. ~ Michelle Burford

Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please. ~ Pythagoras
I wish I could live up to this one!

Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century. ~ Dame Edna Everage

It's amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper. ~ Jerry Seinfeld
This one's not as trivial as it may appear at first glance.

Though it didn't make my list of five, a quote from Hugh Macleod struck me enough to look up his other quotes. Those who hang out at the trendy end of the blogosphere will know that High Macleod writes a very popular blog (I, of course, had never heard of him before). He's also written some thoughts on How To Be Creative - well worth a read, IMHO (and illustrated with some amusing cartoons). Here are my favourite quotes from that:

Never compare your inside with somebody else's outside.

The best way to get approval is not to need it.

Power is never given. Power is taken.

Anyone can be an idealist. Anyone can be a cynic. The hard part lies somewhere in the middle i.e. being human.
