Watery Slytherin?
Discussing correspondences between the HP houses and the four elements here has made me aware that using JKR's interpretations emphasises aspects of the elements that are not usually uppermost in my mind.
I've thought of Hufflepuff as earth, Ravenclaw as air and Gryffindor as fire, but I had problems with Slytherin - their emphasis on worldly status seemed 'earth'-like to me. But Jo sees them as water. Is this a significant clue to the nature of Slytherin?
I've always thought of water as being about the psyche, emotions and intuition. And relationships. But someone on the thread linked to above mentioned water's quality of being hidden/secretive.
So, for those of you who are familiar with the four elements: How do you think of water, and how do you think this fits (or not) Slytherin?
There's more discussion of house/element characteristics on this thread.
Those on my flist who are interested in Tarot might also be interested in this post discussing Major Arcana suggestions for an HP-themed Tarot deck. I responded to the original posters suggestions with several of my own, and I'd be really interested to know what you think!
