A belated Happy New Year to anyone reading this! I decided to go up to the Lakes for New Year, so was offline the few days that weren't spent frantically finishing my Christmas fest fic or editing Chapter 17 of Invictus. I may post pictures later, in case anyone is interested in pictures of rocks in fog.

So. Invictus. The (somewhat shameful) stats:

2003 - 3 chapters posted
2004 - 11 chapters posted
2005 - 1 chapter posted
2006 - 1 chapter posted
2007 - 0 chapters posted

It was late 2004, around a year after I started posting, that depression bit deep. So I'm not going to be overly harsh on myself for the fall-off, though it seems like a long long time ago that I was clinging to you all via the net and begging for advice for dealing with my boss. (I finally shredded the correspondence with that employer a few months ago.) Well, three years is a long time, especially in a fandom populated largely by those in their early twenties. I hope I can get back into semi-regular updates and rebuild Invictus' readership; I feel like I've let the story down, now that it is no longer one of the automatic replies when people ask for Lucius/Hermione recs. That probably comes across as an atrocious attempt at disguising personal pique, but it isn't. My ego certainly isn't immune to pride, but I honestly feel that the story has its own identity, and I am there to serve it.

In which spirit I really wanted to have posted at least one chapter in 2007, but the aforementioned challenge fic and the trip to the Lakes scuppered that plan. However, I can now add to the above list:

2008 - 1 chapter posted (so far?)

'tis here.

I hope that my final tally for this year will be somewhere between those of 2003 and 2004, but I'm still on the antidepressants that have kept me slow for the last three years, and I'm still searching for a way of making a living that I can survive in at least the medium term (thrive would be better, but experience so far puts me a long way from being able to imagine that). But I now want to focus my ficwriting efforts on Invictus until its done. So, just as I've made a decision not to fly within Europe in order to avoid temptation every time I price a trip, I solemnly swear that I will not sign up to a writing challenge (I may make an exeception for drabbles) until Invictus is done. And nor will I succumb to distractions from my own flighty muses, unless they are very insistent that writing would give more than it takes.

And besides, I suck at challenge fic deadlines. Seriously - if you're moderating one and I sign up and I'm still on these ****** pills, tell me to bugger off.
