I've been having toothache for the last few days, so today I got me to a dentist. (Had I known how long I'd be staying in Little Whinging, I'd have got round to that earlier, unless my procrastination bug bit.)
Bad news - I need root canal work on one of my front teeth. This will cost ~£195 to fix, not including the £150 for the X-rays, the check-up, the cleaning and the wee filling I need to stop the chip on another front tooth from lacerating my tongue.
Good news - the dentist is going to refer to me to the London Dental hospital for the orthodontic treatment that might have prevented this had I been able to afford it 5 years ago. If they take me, all I'll have to pay is train fares to London (which is actually more convenient if I end up moving away from the area, as I'd have had to come back to Little Whinging regularly to visit the orthodontist anyhow). And that would save me £1500-£2000. So maybe I'll win in the end. And heck, having to beg off sweets and cakes for a couple of years while wearing braces might even help me shed the extra inches that have kept me out of trousers this last year.
Must get dental insurance sorted out, though. Any recommendations welcome...
