Couldn't let that 'Any situation featuring Lucius Malfoy' challenge over on [livejournal.com profile] malfoy100 pass without contributing, could I? I'm hoping to see some of you over there! ;)

The first drabble was aimed at garnering the extra points awarded for mentioning the diary. (It's always interesting trying to write to a challenge.)

The second... well, I've been pondering using drabbles to dip into Lucius' perspective on Invictus, and this is the first attempt - set, appropriately enough, right at the beginning.

Her last hand-me-down

Lucius had never really been comfortable with the diary. Cheap covers, thin paper, Muggle: hardly a fit vessel for the Dark Lord.

Though it was not really the Dark Lord within those pages. Just as well – it had been difficult enough to remain prudent in ‘conversations’ with the sixteen-year-old version. The Weasley girl wouldn’t stand a chance.

But he had found himself curiously reluctant to part with the nondescript little book. As if it had imbibed a part of him, too. To let a blood traitor child carry it felt… wrong.

Well, she would not be carrying it for long.

Anticipation

A sudden heat in my wand tells me my trap is sprung.

For a moment I consider delaying my entrance… but I don’t want her to lose hope.

No, I want to rip it from her.

I settle my cloak around my shoulders: first impressions count. And I have no wish to be contaminated by her Mudblood filth.

It’s distasteful, letting her besmirch my most secret of chambers, but necessary. I trust my own security. And my own skill with the preparations.

I confess I will enjoy those. I will savour her hatred.

And she will finally learn her place.
