I hate working at home. I especially hate working at home on weekends, when all the things my mind makes me do instead of working makes me end up wasting my own precious time as well. Gah.

So, among my boundless achievements this weekend, I’ve finally figured out that pressing shift while left-clicking opens a page a new window! I’d always browsed by right-clicking before, so now I can finally browse the Lexicon without being made to feel like I’m trying to steal something!

And I’ve been using the web longer than most people, and it’s not as if I don’t spend a lot of my personal and professional life browsing, so I really ought to have known that shortcut. I air my ineptitude here just in case anyone else has been as irritated by (and would therefore appreciate knowing the keyboard short-cut to get round) that particular unique feature of the Lexicon as I have.

No? Guess it’s just me, then. ;)

And I’ve discovered the downside of Broadband: it’s far too easy to just have a ‘quick’ look for a ‘quick’ read when I’m supposed to be doing something else entirely. So if anyone else out there is looking for a short and intelligent story, I’d recommend:

His Private Affairs (Lucius/Narcissa, G) by [livejournal.com profile] archie_costello
In which ‘Narcissa sneaks into Lucius's private rooms and is forced to confront some unpleasant truths about her fiance’, and the reader gets an intriguing glimpse behind the masks that both of them usually wear.

Defying Gravity (Gen, PG-13), by the same author, is also well worth a look if you’re interested in young Snape’s first encounter with Lucius, and their attitudes to the constraints of their respective backgrounds. (I haven’t had time to review this one yet - it’s one of those stories that deserves a more considered response.)

Right, better get on with that work…
