So, I'm back within four walls that aren't made of canvas.
I had vague ideas of making regular witty updates from the field, but a) I guess I'm just too square to be consistently amusing and b) anything worth recounting would be liable to get someone fired. And c) there just wasn't enough time. When they say 'this isn't a job, this is a lifestyle', what they mean is 'your job is your entire life'. That said, it was an enjoyable job. I can't bear the thought of returning to the mind-deadening tedium of 9-5 office work now. It's such a relief to find something that maybe (if there were more people so I could switch off now an then) I could actually do without falling into a pit of despair after 18 months.
And I did have my regular day off, so I got to know the area pretty well. That made it hard to leave, especially mid-season, but a night of sleep in this quiet cul-de-sac in Little Whingeing has taken the edge off the pain of separation.
There maybe photos later, once I've whittled down the 600-odd on my camera to something more manageable!
Next stop: Accio.
I was in two minds about whether to register for Accio in the first place, after the uniquely wonderful experience that was Sectus and sharing the launch of the final book with 400 fellownutters fans. But I went to the first Accio and had a great time, and the opportunity to go to an HP conference in a setting that actually feels like Hogwarts is too good to pass up. And the programming doesn't look too bad - I'm particularly looking forward to the religion stream as there hasn't been anything on that at the conferences I've attended before. And I'm particularly intrigued to hear Geo Trevarthen and Ronald Hutton on the subject of Harry Potter. I've met both of them before in pagan circles. Ronald is a brilliant speaker who I heard give a memorable talk on the relationship between Tolkien and CS Lewis, and Geo once made me fall off my chair after a Druidic chant practice by declaring, pretty much out of the blue, her lust for Lucius Malfoy...
And anyhow, it's the other fans that make these events, and I'm looking forward to having the time to spend with people rather than rushing around sorting out decor or stressing about doing a presentation.
I hope to see some of you there...?
PS - to anyone trying to txt me, I've mislaid my phone. :(
