In the end we went to (P)ottakars, where there was a queue of about 10 people at 11:30 as opposed to round-the-block line-ups at the two main Waterstones. And - bless them - they'd done the sensible thing and let the people at the party (to which I'd been offered tickets but hadn't heard the phone message in time, bah) pre-pay, so the tills were free for those of us waiting outside. So I have my receipt timestamped 00:01 (as opposed to 00:41 last time), and I was walking out with my book at 12:15, after begging the nice man in the shop for one of the colourful bags to put it in. (And no, no one did notice my brooch. Maybe I should have taken my cane. If I'd got in to the party....)

The party there looked like fun, actually - they brought the books down in a glass lift and there was a guy dressed as Hagrid handing them out. It was nice not to be there on my own, and my non-HP-mad friend was tolerantly amused by the whole thing, but for book 7 I want to find a bunch of fellow fans to dress up with and do the thing properly. (You hear that, flist?)

So, here it is - the moment I've been waiting for. 607 creamy white unread pages in a book that seems postively pocket sized compared to OotP. I've had a peek at the first few pages and - oh yes. I can see why [livejournal.com profile] narcissam was so enthusiastic. :)

And now my hot chocolate is almost ready, so, if you'll excuse me, I have a book to read. ;)
