One thing I found interesting about the memories was the way that Tom's eyes became more red as he lost more of his soul.
Harry's eyes, as we are so often told, are an unusual shade of green. Like his mother's eyes. The mother whose great love for her son was so crucial to the plot.
Given that green is opposite to red on the colour-chart, could it be that the green and red eyes of Harry and Voldemort are symbolic or indicative of the state of their souls and their capacity for love?
