I know I've not been around for a while - my household comes to an end in five weeks, and the computer has been much in demand for the creation of CVs and the filling in of application forms. And I'm more and more aware of all the things I want and need to do before leaving, which has cut into my LJ time.
Anyhow, I dropped into FAP this afternoon to post links to 'A Mother's Place', and while I was looking through the very useful Master List of Lead Characters I came across a thread for the Fat Friar. As some of you know, I've had the idea for a Friarfic in the back of my mind - I've always thought it a little odd that, given the various discussions on the place of religion in the Potterverse, this one character that explicitly links the two is ignored. Unfortunately, only one of the two links on the thread works, but the one that did is well worth a look.
The Friar's Death Day (PG, oneshot) by Makoyi
I'd have liked to see more about his relationship with God, which is subtextual at best, but the relationship between the Friar and other staff members is intriguing and - I felt - very much in character for a Hufflepuff man of the cloth.
If you're a fan of genfic, orginal ideas, minor characters or music, do check this out - Makoyi deserves more than three reviews for it!
(Though it seems to me that fewer people are reviewing on FA these days - my last DarkArts oneshot only got two reviews, whereas a couple years ago I was getting around ten for a newly posted oneshot.)
Oh, and while on the subject of the Fat Friar, could any of the historians among you point me towards any (preferably online) resources on medieval liturgy and/or monastic life?
