There seems to be a fair bit of coverage (erm, on the BBC news website, at least) over the BBC's attempt to make spelling cool by importing the spelling bee format from the US. To mark the occasion they've published a spelling test.
I won't tell you how badly I did. It's too humiliating. I think I'm going to turn off the autocorrect in my word processor, so at least I notice when I get things wrong.
This one is a bit easier.
But, erm, it should be, being aimed at schoolchildren and all.
On to happier matters...
malfoy100's theme this week is jealousy.
fourth_rose's contribution (here) is possibly the best drabble I've ever read, and a must for fans of the Harry-Draco tension. I'm awed by the layers of symbolism and characterisation she fit into 100 words!
And fans of the Lucius-Hermione tension (and Tonks) should definitely check out
ginger_dragon's Playing for Time, one of the few fics I've read that manages to keep Lucius detestable throughout.
Speaking of Lucius, I have
_lady_narcissa_ to thank for a link to this e-mail from Jason Isaacs. The Lucius-relevant portion reads:
Like I said, I’m doing a spit and a cough in Harry Potter in February For the Potter fans you’ll remember that Lucius is only on 2 pages of the book so, proportionately, I’m barely in the film but I wasn’t going to miss the chance to wear my Pamela Anderson wig again. If only to make sure that I can remember the voice for number five.
Now, if he's talking about remembering 'the voice', that means he's being flippant about the 'spit and cough'... right? I really want to hear him do the "Good Lord, Arthur... Surely your house wouldn't have fetched this much" QWC line (and heck, it would strengthen a concern for house size already established in the CoS film...). More significantly, how he plays the graveyard scene should say something about how he views the relationship between Lucius and Voldemort.
Yes, I know that movie!canon isn't JKR!canon, but as someone who's tried to get into Lucius' head, I'm very interested in the opinion of the person who's got into Lucius' body. So to speak.
